Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon meets Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on highway projects
Chandigarh. With Punjab heading into Assembly elections next year, state BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Monday took the state’s road and highway demands straight to the Centre.
Dhillon held detailed talks with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on highway projects already under way in Punjab and on those still in the pipeline. The wider question of Punjab’s development was also on the table.
He raised three main concerns with the Union Minister: stronger infrastructure across the state, better road connectivity, and quicker work on pending development projects.
After the meeting, Dhillon said he had exchanged views with Gadkari on key issues tied to Punjab’s growth. He thanked the minister for his time and said Gadkari had always stood by the state’s development.
Punjab’s progress and better basic facilities for its people remain his top priorities, Dhillon said. He added that the party would keep working at every level, with the Centre’s backing, for the all-round development of the state.
Dhillon replaced Sunil Jakhar as the party’s Punjab chief in May. He won the Barnala seat as a Congress MLA twice, in 2007 and 2012, and moved to the BJP in 2022, later becoming vice-president of its Punjab unit. Soon after taking over, he claimed the BJP would form the government in Punjab after the 2027 Assembly polls.
