Amritsar Police heroin seizure

Amritsar : Amritsar Rural Police have arrested four men allegedly linked to cross-border smuggling networks and seized 10 kg of heroin and 10 illegal pistols in two separate operations in the Gharinda area, Punjab Police said on Friday.

The arrested men have been identified as Rajanpreet Singh of Galluwal, Vijay of Rajatal Colony in Gharinda, Parasdeep Singh alias Billa of Kamboa and Gurmukh Singh alias Bodi of Kahangarh, Attari.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation had found alleged links between the accused and foreign-based smugglers involved in the supply of narcotics and illegal weapons. “Further investigation is underway to uncover the complete network and establish the backward and forward linkages,” Yadav said.

The first operation targeted an alleged illegal arms supply network. Acting on specific information, a team from Police Station Gharinda intercepted Rajanpreet Singh and Vijay and recovered 10 illegal pistols from their possession, Inspector General of Police, Border Range, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said.

Police then carried out a second operation based on actionable information about a cross-border narcotics network. Parasdeep Singh alias Billa and Gurmukh Singh alias Bodi were arrested and 10 kg of heroin was recovered from them.

According to Bhullar, Parasdeep is a suspected drug smuggler who was allegedly running a drug cartel in the region.

The arrests have led to two separate cases at Police Station Gharinda. FIR No. 422, registered on September 27, 2026, invokes Section 25 of the Arms Act, while FIR No. 423, registered on September 28, has been filed under Section 21 of the NDPS Act.

Amritsar Rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said the investigations were continuing.

Police are now probing the alleged foreign connections, the source of the weapons and heroin, and the wider network involved in moving the contraband and firearms.
