Punjab needs Congress again, law and order in a sorry state under Mann govt: Rajan Garg

Chandigarh. Bathinda (Urban) district Congress president Rajan Garg on Saturday accused the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government of failing Punjab on law and order. He said only a Congress-led government could set the state right before the 2027 Assembly elections.

“Under the Mann government, law and order in Punjab is in a sorry state. Cracks are being driven into the brotherhood among our people. This is not right,” Garg said.

He spoke at Congress Bhawan, where the party marked former prime minister Indira Gandhi’s 42nd death anniversary as “Balidan Diwas” (martyrdom day).

Garg said Punjab and the country now needed a change. “To save the country and Punjab, a Congress-led government is once again the need of the hour,” he said.

He also targeted the BJP-led Centre. “The Modi government is tearing the Constitution to shreds,” Garg said.

He presented the Congress as the party of social harmony. “The Congress has always stood for peace and brotherhood. We will keep standing guard over these values,” he said.

Garg led the tribute, along with Congress councillors, office-bearers from the party’s various wings, and workers. They laid floral tributes and stood in silence in Indira Gandhi’s memory.

“Indira Gandhi’s contribution to the nation can never be forgotten. She laid down her life to strengthen peace and brotherhood in the country, including Punjab,” Garg said. He added that she had drawn up major schemes to take the country forward and bring prosperity to every section of society.

Indira Gandhi was shot dead by two of her bodyguards at her New Delhi residence on October 31, 1984.

Those present included KK Aggarwal, Baljinder Thekedar, Jasvir Kaur, Madho Sharma, Bhagwan Das Bharti, Naresh Garg, Roop Singh, Hari Om Kapoor, Sunil Kumar, Baltej Singh Sidhu, Rameshwar Rajora, Duli Chand, Sukhdev Singh Bahia, Raman Kumar, and Rupinder Bindra, vice-president and press and media in-charge, along with a large number of party leaders and workers.
